Short answer: For a free start, take the official shadcn/ui Blocks for single pages, Vercel's SaaS Starter for a SaaS with Stripe, or Vercel's Chatbot for an AI app. If you want finished screens for a specific kind of app, like a CRM, store, LMS, help desk or booking tool, a domain template saves you weeks.

What to Check Before You Pick a shadcn Template

Radix or Base UI. shadcn/ui now ships on either Radix UI or Base UI primitives. Both are fine, but mixing them in one project gets messy. Check which one a template uses before you add your own components.
Tailwind v4 and Next.js 16. shadcn/ui moved to both. A template still on Tailwind v3 means a migration before you start.
Last update. shadcn/ui changes often. A repo untouched for a year will drift from the CLI's current output.
License for commercial use. Free repos set their own license. Some paid libraries only allow personal use on their cheapest plan.
Screens, not components. A pile of blocks is useful, but you still assemble the app. Count the finished pages for what you're building.

1. shadcn/ui Blocks (official)

The Blocks page has copy-paste building blocks from the shadcn/ui team: a full dashboard page, sidebars, login and signup screens, and more. It's the closest you'll get to the source, and the main shadcn/ui repo has about 126k GitHub stars and is updated almost daily.

License: MIT
Best for: Single pages that match current shadcn/ui exactly
Watch out for: These are blocks, not apps. You build every other page.

2. nextjs/saas-starter (Vercel)

Best free SaaS template with a real backend.

SaaS Starter is from the Next.js team (about 16k stars). It includes a marketing page, a pricing page wired to Stripe Checkout, a dashboard with team management, basic owner and member roles, subscription management through the Stripe Customer Portal, email and password auth, and activity logging. It uses Postgres with Drizzle.

Watch out for: It's deliberately small. Expect a handful of pages you extend.

3. Vercel Chatbot

Best free AI chat template.

Chatbot (formerly AI Chatbot, about 21k stars) is a full Next.js chat app built on the AI SDK and shadcn/ui, with Auth.js, Neon Postgres for chat history and Vercel Blob for file storage.

License: Apache 2.0

Watch out for: It's built around Vercel's stack. Moving off Neon, Blob or the AI Gateway is real work.

4. ixartz SaaS Boilerplate

Best free SaaS boilerplate if you want multi-tenancy.

SaaS Boilerplate (about 7k stars) uses Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, with Clerk auth, teams and roles, Drizzle ORM, i18n, a landing page and a user dashboard, plus testing and CI already set up.

5. next-shadcn-dashboard-starter

Best free admin dashboard on Next.js.

Free landing page, with a caveat.

shadcn-landing-page (about 1.3k stars) is a Next.js + shadcn/ui landing page with the usual sections: hero, features, pricing, testimonials, FAQ.

Watch out for: Its last update was January 2025, so expect to update dependencies first.

7. shadcn.io template directory

shadcn.io lists 229 templates, 215 of them open source from independent developers. It's an independent project, not the official shadcn/ui site. It's a useful place to browse, but quality and licenses vary by repo, so check each one.

shadcnblocks has 2,000+ blocks. Templates start on the Premium plan at $299 one-time, which includes 21 templates, the Admin Kit and a Figma kit. The $149 Pro plan is blocks only.

9. shadcn.io Pro

shadcn.io Pro adds 14 premium templates and 6,000+ blocks. It's a yearly subscription: $389 a year for Individual, which covers personal and open source use only. Commercial use starts at the Team plan, $789 a year.

A specific kind of app (CRM, store, LMS, help desk, booking): free templates mostly stop at dashboards. A domain template gets you 30 to 110 finished screens.
You need a backend on day one: nextjs/saas-starter (Postgres and Stripe) for free, or a full-stack kit on Supabase.
Commercial work on a paid library: check the license tier before you buy, since some cheaper plans are personal use only.
